Death is only a beginning
for those still living
the ones left behind
are the ones who need
the funeral and the body
like a physical reminder
of the existence of one
who was so special.

Broken hearts
perhaps memories will fade
yet still he's left reminders
in the words left behind
his emotion, his proof
his footprint on the world
may steadily fade
when he has gone away

but we will still be here
where he once was
and we will be the reminders
of the impact
a single person can have on the world
composed of individuals connected
by him and his life
he has touched us
left a mark
and we will keep this mark
until we join him.
The-Most-Unclean :tighthug: I don't really know quite what to say. It's really morbid to post this now, but. I don't quite know what to say.

...You know, I just now realized that while I think weddings are silly and marriage is unnecessary, I don't feel that way about funerals. I don't enjoy them, I get very little out of them other than a prolonged sense of misery and numbness, but I respect the intent behind them. And it might be because I'm one of the most sentimental people who ever lived, but I don't know...and now I'm not sure what to say. :blackrose:

I understand people's desire for a wedding, a special day to celebrate you and your loved one, just as much as I get the intent behind a funeral. Ironically, yesterday I attended a funeral. There was very much a prolonged sense of misery and numbness, but as much as I was miserable I also wanted to run away, because I didn't know the lady very well. She was my grade 2 religion teacher and we did not really remain in contact once I stopped having religion class with her, so seeing her family and friends relate memories they had with her, their grief was so real and I knew I did not feel the same depth of sorrow they did so it was just, I did not belong there amongst their grieving.

Sorry to unload that on you ^^; It was just on my mind.

I can see the intent behind weddings, but I just have a personal distaste for them because all my childhood I was told that you have to get married or else your love won't be lasting or valid, which seems wrong to me for so many reasons...people shouldn't need a binding contract to prove their love and make it last, and if they do need one, they aren't ready for a relationship in the first place.

Other than my grandfather's funeral, which was a lot less formal and a lot more private than most, there's really only one funeral I can remember going to...there was a lady at my church, back when I still went to church, who passed away and the funeral was held at the church itself and I just remember how grey and quiet and cold it was and watching her daughter wander aimlessly around with a rose in her hand, and everyone trying to give her hugs and comfort but she just wanted to be left alone...that's the thing that stuck with me the most.

I didn't know her, really, and I didn't know her mother, so...I can understand what you mean about not feeling like you belong there. Just thinking about it makes me feel cold.

Don't be sorry, I don't mind listening to these things at all. I hope it helped in some way~ :huggle:

Oh, that makes sense. Somehow, it all comes back to childhood, doesn't it? The foundation upon which our personalities were founded.

Thank you, it did help :huggle:

Wow, this is beautiful. It's so true how much significance we put into a single person's death. That's not to say that death isn't important, but once we die we don't really care because we aren't there anymore. Definitely it's more important for us to keep reminders of those already gone than the reverse... I really like how you've written this. As with everything else you've done, nice job! You took a slightly different perspective on this and I love that :) I always enjoy your writing, keep it up!

Aw, thanks so much! I'm glad you think so. And yeah, it's something that's probably been on the back of my mind, how funerals are for the living, not the dead. I feel like I read that somewhere, but  I read a lot of books.
So thanks. :)

I've heard something along those lines as well but I can't remember where. I never think about it from that perspective but it's very true. You're welcome though! :)

Thank you. And hopefully. Who knows what will happen after life? It's why I just enjoy life, regardless of what may come after it all.

The only thing I know is that we have complete control over OUR lives and OUR future. What happens after, who knows? You have a wonderful way of looking at it.

XD Oh, my dreamer friend, if you believe you have complete control over your life and future, you're going to spend it constantly being surprised. The thing is, even as you're living your life, so are thousands of other people all around you who may impact your life in ways you can't even imagine or see. Chaos theory, right, a butterfly flaps its wings and there's a snowstorm in Chicago. We're interconnected.

Oh see, I'm always surprised. If there's a snowstorm in Chicago, there's likely a snowstorm here. Plus that LAKE EFFECT CRAP? YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW! Chaos theory is amazing and I think its right...

nononono. Lake effect snow, when a snow system goes across the lake and BAM IT BECOMES MORE POWERFUL. Its common here in the Great Lakes region.

CHAOS IS AMAZING. :D

Someone asked me why I never tossed my brother's ashes. They scolded me because he wished it. Now I wonder if he will come back and tell me himself. I'm holding his ashes hostage. LOL

very good. death should be feared, but not to the extent that it ruins your life, stops you from living. anyway, may we talk in fb?
