patchwork universe

threads hanging far off
winding around stars
needle in hand, ply
pieces piled up
surrounding
trapping
freeing.

the mind a mysterious
luxury, the heart
a betrayal of the best kind
grains of sand melted to
colourful bits of glass
washing slowly out into
vast, endless, salty ocean.

a rock unmoving moves
bending as trees remain
unbroken but not quite
whole, still forming
a story.

a universe contained in
the hand which obeys
the mind trying
to understand more than
be understood.

a kind soul hardened but still
fragile despite a bittersweet
addicting taste.

surrounding shadows
cast by distant light
silver midnight comforts
grey skies darkening into
night turns again to dawning
day comes to pass as night fades
and so an unbroken cycle never breaks
but only changes.
